Work Experience Semester TWO 2024
March 4-8 Students continue to work on their job assignments. Teacher will check in with students and supervisors weekly and ensure everything is going smoothly.
February 12-March 5: Teacher will go with students to their job assignments and meet their supervisors and do inspection of work site. Give paperwork and contract to supervisors and ensure all signatures have been completed. Touch base with parents, help students get SIN numbers if needed, and help students apply for jobs if they are working at their first job as opposed to shadowing for future career.
February 12-29: Students have all been placed and they will be going to their jobs and no longer attending class, but getting their hours done at their jobs. Teacher will be in touch with their supervisors weekly or bi weekly. Any issues must be brought to supervisor, teacher and if you want, parents.
January-first week of February: Go over resumes, cover letter, questionnaires, Work Experience Application and get students interests and start finding placements.
Work Experience Semester TWO 2022
Feb. 7-11:
Feb 1-4: Get interviews going -- CBC, CHON FM and for medical reaching out to doctors, private clinics, Whitehorse General, etc. Work on university applications.
Jan. 31/Feb 1: Students to work on getting contacts for medical work placement. Get info on all clinics, doctors, the hospital, and once info is compiled, we'll start to ask for placements and interviews if placements aren't available. For journalism, get university applications in and work out the hours and location for work placements at agencies that deal in journalism and media.
January 24-28 Follow up on contacts in medicine and journalism. Work on research to get potential interviews/work placement in medicine, and work on university applications for journalism for January. Talk to CHON FM and CBC via Zoom and transcribe notes and info.
January 17-21: Research work placements for medicine and for journalism. Do interview with former student from PCSS who is in medical school and do a Zoom meeting with WEX student. Create questions to ask and then interview and type out answers.Research where to go to school, and potential medical clinics to see if it's possible to have a work type experience placement. Research who to contact at hospital for potential placements. Research doctor's names, clinics, and some research on Katharine Smart, who is head of Canadian Medical Association and pediatrist.
Journalism: Touch base with Leonard Linklater and Kanina from CBC. Line up through emails and phone calls a meeting. WEX student can also be in touch via email and introductions. Meeting following week to set up how work placement will happen. Type out notes and info.
Talk to CHON FM, Michele Kolla. Set up details of work placement--hours, start date, paper work and visitation. WEX student will have to do a rapid test daily before entering building.

May: finish work placements and analysis; for psychology and social work students, finish survey, tabulate results and write a brief review of what was learned over the semester.
April: survey and analyze results. Do a 16 hour Psychological First Aid class on April 18/29
March: interviews and create survey for psychological stress on students in COVID times.
February: Do interviews with social workers, psychologists, counsellors, and students. Compile info for class mark.
Jan 19: Go over expectations, interests in workplace, and chat about work experience and the commitment that must be given to do this course. I will follow Ms. George's outline and ideas for how to have a successful WEX experience in this class. Work place ideas/suggestions will be figured out today, and forms will be filled in.
